I’m sure you do, but that word should not appear in your personal statement (unless you happen to be writing about passion fruit).  Here’s why.  If you’ve selected an activity to write about, presumably it’s something that really floats your boat.  Though you may be passionate about that activity, do not come out and state that.  Many students make the mistake of writing, “I’m passionate about….” or “I have a passion for…”  The use of those phrases is not only somewhat trite, it defies one of the first rules of writing which is ‘show don’t tell.’  Instead, vividly describe your involvement in the activity using a significant amount of detail.  That way, the reader will truly understand the depth and nature of your passion.
